Join your host from 8.30pm in the The Queen Victoria in Theydon Bois.
This is a friendly pub with a great atmosphere for a quiet drink with one large bar area to the right as you go in, and a small bar area to the left. If you're driving, there is plenty of car park space at the front and back. As you go in the pub, turn right, and i will be in the large bar area to start off. Don't forget www.fancyapint.com also gives you directions, plus reviews of pubs etc.

Meet at the far end of the bar on the left had side (near the band) from 9pm onwards. There is a big car park just across the road. Give me a call to let me know that you are coming along. |

Amici Book Club - contact Mary
All members welcome to come along to the monthly book club. We had our first meeting in January and it was very successful, so why not read the next book and join us this month - see Amici forum book club page for review of the last book.
We discuss the book we have been reading for the last few weeks, have a general chat and choose the next book. Join your host for the November Book Club meeting at 8pm. Mary lives in Theydon Bois, please call to say that you will be coming along and for full address/directions. At the October meeting we will be reviewing 'Cold Comfort Farm' by Stella Gibbons. Synopsis: The heroine, Flora, stays at Aunt Ada Doom's isolated farm in the fictional village of Howling in Sussex. As is typical in a certain genre of romantic nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century literature, each of the farm's inhabitants has some long-festering emotional problem caused by ignorance, hatred or fear, and the farm is badly run. Flora, being a level-headed, urban woman, applies modern common sense to their problems and helps them all adapt to the twentieth century. At the next meeting (January) we will be reviewing 'Cloud Atlas' by Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Review: David Mitchell entices his readers on to a rollercoaster, and at first they wonder if they want to get off. Then - at least in my case - they can't bear the journey to end. Like Scheherazade, and like serialised Victorian novels and modern soaps, he ends his episodes on cliffhangers and missed heartbeats. But unlike these, he starts his next tale in another place, in another time, in another vocabulary, and expects us to go through it all again. Trust the tale. He reaches a cumulative ending of all of them, and then finishes them all individually, giving a complete narrative pleasure that is rare.
